Miscellany Monday - More Pictures

23/365
tiny tot

I didn't actually take this picture, but Sissy sent it to me with the caption, "Take my picture please."

How can you not love that kid?

24/365
nightly routine

I can guarantee you that if you go to Match and Papa's house after 6 pm on any given weeknight, this is what you will see.

Both on their iPads, Fox News on the TV.

25/365
fastest girl in town

We had to run 3 400m sprints in CrossFit last week, with one minute rest in between.

Total time posted - 7:16. That means that every one of my sprints was under two minutes! I was so proud!

26/365
mail surprise

Such-N-Such sent me a letter and included this shrinky dink that we made last year.

I LOVE getting surprises in the mail!!

27/365
kickin' it old school

On Friday evening, I headed down to my alma mater to watch JP's little bro play a little basketball.

You couldn't pay me enough to go back to high school, but I do love the Buckeye Hawks!

28/365
color running

On Saturday, I took off with Triple R and Dirty to participate in the first Color Run in Arizona.

It was the MOST fun I have ever had running! On the left you see what I looked like at the beginning of the race, and on the right - after.

I encourage you to see if there is a Color Run near you and sign up NOW! www.thecolorrun.com

29/365
3 nephews and a niece

The Fam headed out to Sissy's yesterday for BIL's birthday lunch. I was a little early so I was out front hanging with Biggie and Tiny while they rode their bike and scooter respectively.

We are still waiting for BabyBunner* (on the bottom left) to make his appearance any time this week. And SisterSmalls* sometime in the next six or so weeks.

30/265
paleo dessert

Who says dessert has to have sugar? Not me!

I should probably be concerned that I ate an entire bunch of kale tonight, but I'm not. It was delicious sauteed with bacon, garlic, and shallots.

FITBF

Let me start off this post by apologizing. I started my new job on Monday and I am LOVING it. However, we work ten-hour days Monday through Thursday and I spent the week getting adjusted to that schedule. Let me tell you - it will wear you out, but I'm certainly enjoying this Friday off business.

Now, on to the filling in...

1.   What I love most about my home is     that one of these days I'm going to decorate just how I want :)     .

2.  I'm excited because,    I really like my job, I get to spend tomorrow with my nephews, and we're going to the ranch next weekend  .

3.  My preferred method for blowing  off steam when I 'm frustrated is     yelling at Diddy! Just kidding -  usually I like to talk about what is frustrating me one time and then move on. Depending on what is frustrating me, I may run or drink  .

4.  Currently I am craving   the french onion soup from the steak house at John Ascuaga's nugget in Reno. Seriously - so good! I don't even like french onion soup  .

5.  The thing I love most about my mom is     that she is always there for me. She will tell me what I need to hear, even it if isn't what I want to hear. And if someone is mean to me, she will give them hell  .

6.  If I was going to write a book about my life, the title would be       "Do What I Say And No One Will Get Hurt"   .

7.  If I were to eat one thing for the rest of eternity it would be       I just can't make this decision. I can't be committed to one food. Right now, I would probably say chips, salsa, and guacamole   .

Kind of random, but I wanted to share a picture...
Cribs, Glinda, and me at Cribs' wedding!

Now head on over to Lauren's blog on fill-in!

Twelve Inches...Or A Foot

Did any of you see that Sex and the City Episode where the guy at the shoe store gives Charlotte free shoes as long as she'll let him put them on her feet?

I was as freaked out about that episode as I was when I encountered a foot fetish in real life.

As I've mentioned, Cribs got married a couple of weekends ago.

I may have also mentioned that it was the.greatest.wedding.EVER! That isn't really the point here, but I can not express this enough.

So, as is typical of girls at weddings, we wore heels during the ceremony, but when the reception came around we changed into flips. (Super cute flips that Cribs' mom bought for us!)

Because you know, at a wedding, me and my girls - we gots to get our dancing on!

And dancing we did - all night long!

The band shut down at midnight and by the time we got everyone situated and headed outside for a cab it was closer to one am.

Glinda, Fiero, another bridesmaid, and I are standing in front of the resort waiting for a cab when another party goer came up to us and said, "I saw you girls wearing those heels earlier and then you changed. I was very disappointed. You should wear heels all night."

We kind of thought he was joking so we all made a comment about how he should wear heels all night or how we couldn't properly get our groove on in the heels.

Then he says, "I'm serious. Next time I see you at a wedding, I expect you to wear heels all night. I kind of have a thing for feet."

We all just kind of stared at each other - I mean really, what do you say to that?

Then he offered us a drink that he was carrying.

I said absolutely not - I did not want to get roofied by the crazy foot fetish guy.

Though what's the worst that could have happened? I would have woken up with painted toe nails getting a foot massage...

Miscellany Monday

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

one
unplanned break

I'm sorry I have been MIA for a week. I was catching up on life and relaxing a little last week and for some reason blogging didn't fit in.

I'm back now though - don't worry.

two
wonders never cease

Well, we ran Pat's Run this past Saturday. And as you'll remember I was scared about going 4.2 miles...

I am happy to report that Cribs, Glinda, and I ran that race in 43:53. Yes, friends - that is a 10:26 mile! I continue to amaze myself.

three
put the lime in the coconut

As you may know, I try to eat (mostly) Paleo. One of the changes that I have made on this eating plan is that I have switched from half-and-half in my coffee to coconut milk. (I'm not quite cowboy enough for black coffee yet.)

I LOVE coconut milk! But I have recently learned that you can not buy the store brand of this product - it will.not.be as good. Trust me on this one.

Miscellany Monday

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

one
wedding extravaganza

This last weekend was Cribs' wedding. And it did.not.disappoint. Seriously, I can not put into words how AWESOME this wedding was! From Friday afternoon rehearsal to post-brunch patio time with the new Mrs., I had a blast!

I wish I had pictures to share of how beautiful it all was, but I left the picture taking to someone else.

two
a sad day

The only sad part of the weekend came on my drive home. Tyler died. For 185,000 miles he has been a good car, but I think it is time to say goodbye and go our separate ways.

Looks like Match and I will be doing some car shopping today. Wish us luck!

three
four mile fear

This coming Saturday I will be participating in Pat's Run with a group of friends.

For me, Pat Tillman is a true inspiration! I am honored to be able to celebrate him with this run.

However, it is 4.2 miles and I am scared! I did 3.35 this morning and it was tough!

one
running behind

I can't believe that it is already 9:44 pm and I haven't posted this blog yet. I sat down this morning to post and then had to get ready and go to work. Then I had internet issues at the office today. Then I had a meeting after work. Then I got to Sissy's house and a friend of mine was here. So...better late than never, right?

two
a little glitter

Glinda and I were shoe shopping for Cribs' wedding last week - our mission: black strappy heels.

Our find:

We tried to talk Cribs into letting us get them - gold is one of her accent colors after all...

But - my birthday is coming up and I would love someone forever if they bought these for me!

three
glees

Glinda is obsessed with Glee. I had never seen it, but she needed someone to talk about it with so she gave me the first season to watch on DVD so I could get caught up.

Why have I not been watching this show? It is FABULOUS!

four
progress

If you click on this picture and enlarge it you can see what we're growing in our garden.

Some of it is hard to see, but this morning we noticed that our sweet bell peppers are starting to sprout!! (We were a little worried because the seed packet said that we should start them inside - whoops.)

However, our summer squash is struggling - I'm hoping that it will come up soon!

Miscellany Monday

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

uno
pen and paper

I know this is going to sound really old-ladyish of me, but I am disappointed that people don't spend more time sending hand-written notes.

I remember being a kid and having pen pals - I LOVED pen pals. I loved getting something in the mail from someone far away and learning about what they were up to. There was summer in high school when a friend and I wrote each other letters, just because.

I miss those days.

So for Lent (I realize I'm a couple days late for the party), I am committing to send some hand-written notes to people. Not thank-yous, just little notes.

dos
tears of joy

I was checking out Facebook this morning and I started crying.

Ok, not full out crying, but I got a little misty-eyed.

You see, a beautiful young woman I used to babysit got engaged on V-day and she posted her engagement pictures on Facebook.

They were so beautiful that I teared up - I'm getting so old!

If you want to check them out you can do so here.

tres
not funny ha ha

I got a call from Glinda today, she said something to the effect of:

I have a funny story for you. Not funny-ha-ha. Funny-this-is-effing-ridiculous.

As you may remember, Glinda and I talked Cribs into running and, in turn, Cribs talked us into running a 5K with her.

So we found one that worked in our schedule, signed up (through a reputable website, I might add) and commenced training.

Turns out, the race was fictional and does not exist. So goodbye $30 registration fee.

And I hope those people are ready for some serious bad karma!!

Bridal Shower Fun

As I've mentioned, Cribs is getting married and this past weekend I attended her bridal shower.

This was the greatest bridal shower eva' for a few reasons:

1. It was an interactive cooking class/shower.

2. There was an open bar. (Yes, with hard alcohol.)

2a. There was a SMOKIN' hot bartender!

2b. There were a lot of drunk women in the 40-60 age range.

3. Everything at the shower had my name on it (because they misspelled Cribs' name).

Seriously, let's start from the beginning:

A couple of weeks ago a large white envelope came in the mail for me.

When I opened it up, this is what I found:

(once again, please forgive my picture taking skills)

Seriously, though - how adorable is that?  A full-sized wooden spoon with each invite!?!?

Fast forward to Sunday afternoon...

Glinda and I showed up about ten minutes early and walked in together. We were greeted at the door by a nice gentleman who said to us, "Our signature drink today is a Raspberry Fizz - would you like me to get you one?"

We didn't want to be rude, so we accepted. While he had the hot bartender fix those up, we were greeted by the hostesses of the event - they got our names and then came back to us with this:

(my actual apron has my real name on it, and clearly my MSPaint skills aren't awesome, but you get the idea)

Adorable, right?!?

Once everyone arrived, and had drinks in hand, we split up into teams and headed to the kitchen.

Before we did that, we all had to transfer our drinks into little plastic cups with lids and straws so we didn't spill our drinks in the food.

Long story, short - once we arrived in the kitchen, each "team" learned how to make a portion of the meal and they got to work preparing that.

During the time, our adorable waiter (who loved me!) came around and got everyone drink refills!

After a lot of drinking and cooking, we headed back into our little room and waited for our food to be plated and served.

Both Glinda and I forgot to take a picture of the food, but it was good!

Mucho Miscellany

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

one. I have no idea where I have been lately. I had things to blog about and some time to do it, and just didn't.

two. I believe we've talked before about the fact that I have been a bridesmaid a lot. (I know, I should be honored - and I am - but sometimes it's crazy.) So last week Glinda and I went to a happy hour to celebrate Cribs finishing the Arizona Bar Exam. When we got there, Cribs asked if she could talk to us. Then she asked if we would be her bridesmaids. It was totally out of left field, I never expected her to ask me, but I am truly honored. Some of the things she said when asking are the nicest things a person has said to me. (And truly all the right reasons to ask someone to be in your wedding party.)

three. This means I am up to three weddings in 2011 so far. January, April, and June. I'm taking applications for dates now.

four. I spent the weekend with Sissy and the boys. It was not my intention to do so, but I couldn't help it. Therefore, I was essentially unproductive - no groceries, no cooking, no laundry. This is going to spell bad news come this weekend.

five. Speaking of this weekend - IT is coming to town!!! We are having a sleepover on Friday night and I am stoked! IT's parents are a riot and her dad will no doubt have a whole conversation with me about why I am still single and if I've been intimidating men lately. Always a good time!

six.  I still haven't sent out the fundraising letters for the Breast Cancer 3-Day. Someone kick my butt in gear!!

Don't Drink The Water

Back in 2007 I wrote this post about weddings and babies.

Well, here we go again...

As I mentioned last month, Cribs got engaged and we had dinner to discuss weddings.

Then I went to a wedding with Diddy that weekend. In two weekends, I will go to another wedding. I currently don't have one scheduled for May, but I have two in June. Then one in July. Then I think I'm on a break until January. And then Cribs gets married in April 2011.

But don't worry, there will be lots of babies in between!

I'll make a list, that seems like the easiest way to do it:

  • Freckles is due to have a baby boy in July
  • One of my sorority sisters is going to have a baby girl any day now
  • Bodybuilder is having a baby in September
  • Rejuba is due in September
  • Another cousin is due in November
  • My old trainer is pregnant
  • My hair dresser is pregnant
I know there are more...

Seriously, what is in the water??

Good Friends

I had dinner last night with Glinda and Cribs.

It was a BLAST! And just what I needed.

Cribs recently got engaged and we had to get together to see the ring and get all of the details of the proposal. If I didn't like that girl so much I would have thrown up on the table. She's so adorably happy!

At some point the conversation was shifted to me, and the girls told me exactly what I needed to hear.

I am very lucky to have them in my life!

Just When You Think You're All By Yourself...

It is funny to me how things happen just when you need them to. A couple of weeks ago, I posted about my birthday coming up and some goals I had for my next year in life. I think that came from me realizing that I needed to make some changes in my life.

So, as many of you know, I am deeply involved in a leadership organization for high school sophomores. This year, I was in charge of the annual seminar. I had a volunteer staff and committee, but I had to make sure it all came together. I was responsible for 150 15 and 16 year olds for 4 days. In the month leading up to the seminar I was seriously questioning my sanity for agreeing to take on this position. I actually thought of not returning for the following year. Yet, the seminar came around and it went amazingly well! There were some hiccups, but it came together nicely. It was just what I needed, just when I needed it.

In addition, I have found some of the greatest friends in the world. I love all of my friends, but this group of people have helped me to learn so much about myself in the last week and a half. Two years ago, Glinda and I decided to be friends outside of the seminar. It was wildly successful and we tried to get Ritzy* to join us in our friendship last year, but it didn't work out. So at this year's seminar there was a group of us that just seemed to bond. We call ourselves the IC and we have big plans for our friendship throughout the year.

I really need these people at this time in my life. So, in addition to Glinda and Ritzy, plan to see more of Cross Country* (CC), Miss Arizona* (MA), Beckham*, Such-n-such*, and Cribs*.
